Growing Goodness with Jake Dukes & Camp Southern Ground

Zach Brown knows that goodness in action heals people. That’s why he founded Camp Southern Ground in 2011. It’s hard to put into words exactly what camp is like. If you imagine a 400 acre campus with a state of the art facility that looks like it should be in Silicon Valley – you would be partially right. If you thought of a place where veterans are invited (at no expense to them) to work through challenges transitioning to the Civilian work force, you would be partially right. If you think a traditional camp that hosts special needs or at risk kids, you would be partially right. You would be 100% right if you imagined a group of men and women that are committed to helping other human beings flourish – and often at no expense to themselves. How do we make the world a better place? By serving each other and Jake Dukes joins Dave McCall to explain on the next QTS Experience.
About Our Guest:
JAKE DUKES
VICE PRESIDENT, STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
Jake joined the Camp Southern Ground team in March of 2018. He is a leadership coach, speaker and author who served for many years on executive teams of large churches focused on developing staff and overseeing campus operations. Now he uses his unique blend of business and ministry experience to develop future strategy for Camp Southern Ground and help facilitate a strong leadership culture among the staff. Jake brings his passion to every project and he’s not afraid to help teams break free from the rules they’ve inherited and push past the status quo. Jake lives in Senoia with his wife Jackie and four daughters.
About Camp Southern Ground:
Camp Southern Ground stretches across more than 400 acres of land in Fayetteville, Georgia, about 30 miles south of Atlanta. During summer months, we host kids ages 7-17 for week-long, inclusive, residential camps, bringing together typically developing children, children with neurodevelopmental differences, underserved kids, and kids from military families. The rest of the year is dedicated to supporting post-9/11 veterans with two programs. Warrior Week, Camp Southern Ground’s signature workforce and wellness transition program, helps veterans in the transition to civilian life after military service. Warrior PATHH (Progressive Alternative Training for Healing Heroes) aims to facilitate post-traumatic growth among combat veterans struggling with PTSD and/or combat stress. Provided at no cost to veterans, we welcome Warriors from across the country.

The Journey to CTO with Emmett (Trey) Hawkins
Wednesday Dec 02, 2020
Wednesday Dec 02, 2020
Trey Hawkins has been a CTO for 20 years, pretty incredible for a guy in his mid-40’s. I asked Trey to share with us how he moved from single contributor to leader, how has he pivoted in the age of Covid, and what’s next that we should be thinking about? Trey is a fixture in Atlanta IT circles, known for his intellect, leadership skills, and, evidently, his killer racquet ball skills.
About Our Guest:
Emmett (Trey) Hawkins, CTO
aka The Sage of All Frogs
Trey oversees the architecture, implementation, training and evolution of Leapfrog’s core technologies.
Trey Hawkins was a co-founder and chief technical officer of Virtex Networks, Inc., one of the nation’s first IT infrastructure service providers. Virtex was acquired by Leapfrog in 2001. Prior to founding Virtex, Trey ran Computer Associates’ enterprise software training center in Atlanta, Georgia under a contract with RightSource Inc. During his tenure with RightSource, he honed his expertise in implementing and supporting enterprise management technology used by Fortune 500 companies. As an undergraduate, Trey managed Emory University’s computing services, where he was responsible for several major upgrades and improvements to their sophisticated computing lab.
Trey is currently a member for InfraGard, a cooperative undertaking between the U.S. Government, businesses, academic institutions, and state and local law enforcement agencies that are dedicated to increasing the security of United States’ critical infrastructures. Trey was nominated for the Atlanta CIO of the year award in 2014 and also served on a special committee to help select the CIO of the City of Atlanta and is currently serving on a committee to select a new CIO for the Atlanta Public School System. Trey is a board member and trustee for the Grace Foundation and graduated from Emory University where he earned a double major in Philosophy and Education.

Game On: The New Era of Sport with Darcy Lorincz
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Almost all professional sports have seen a staggering decline in viewership. Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Football, Hockey – all of them. Except … for online sports. In fact the world now spends 600 million hours a month watching online gaming – not playing – watching. The second number is just as crazy, last year the largest online gaming tournament had a prize pool of roughly 35 million dollars for 90 players – compare that to Tennis US open of 57 million for 500 players - Darcy Lorincz Global Head of Esports and Business Development at Engine Media Inc joins me this week to help us understand this incredible phenomenon – on the Next QTS Experience

Slowing Down Covid - One IP at a Time with Staffan Göjeryd
Wednesday Nov 04, 2020
Wednesday Nov 04, 2020
There isn’t a cloud, social media, or any other online service without the world being connected, In fact we don’t have to imagine what it would be like to experience a pandemic if we couldn’t work remote or maintain social distancing – history is full of such stories. Staffan Göjeryd , CEO at Telia Carrier joins me from Sweden as he explains how tech is helping to slow down the virus, and what could be next, on the next QTS Experience.
About our Guest:
Staffan Göjeryd was appointed CEO of Telia Carrier in August 2016. Having started at Telia Company at a time when a 14k modem was considered high tech, he has since helped drive Telia Carrier to its position as the world’s leading global backbone. His focus on customer excellence and delivering exceptional quality to Telia Carrier’s customers are just two of the areas that have taken him on this literal journey from the trenches to high command. Despite knowing all there is to know about connectivity, Staffan’s main interest is what customers actually do with it. Having seen the repeated cycles of Internet boom and bust, he knows it takes more than belief and adrenaline to build a successful business. Staffan has held technical and customer-facing roles within Telia Company in both Europe and North America. These include Director of Network Planning and head of Telia Carrier´s Data and Infrastructure business. He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from Linköping University and is an accomplished golfer – a hobby currently taking second place to his kids. source: https://www.teliacarrier.com/about-us/management.html#section-1
About Telia Carrier:
Telia Carrier is a fully owned subsidiary of Telia Company. We started building our network in 1993, when our Autonomous System, AS1299, was allocated. Unlike most of our competitors, we’ve grown organically ever since. Our network now stretches 67,000 kms across Europe, the US and Asia and lets you connect directly to more than 2,000 wholesale customers in more than 120 countries. AS1299 is currently the #1 ranked global IP backbone and with more than 450 local access partners around the world, we are the backbone of your business, wherever you are. source: https://www.teliacarrier.com/about-us.html
